A Video Bible Study:
Elizabeth George’s
“Putting on a Gentle and Quiet Spirit”
Lesson 13
Here is today’s Bible verse:
For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps:
“Who committed no sin,
Nor was deceit found in His mouth”;
who, when He was reviled, did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten, but committed Himself to Him who judges righteously; who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness by whose stripes you were healed. For you were like sheep going astray, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.2 Peter 2:21-25
Elizabeth George says this passage is about Following in His Footsteps. I say, easier said than done! Sometimes the chasm between our path and the footsteps of Christ is overwhelming…being conformed to His image might seem like putting a round peg in a square hole. But God has promised to do that very thing, for us!
- For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren (Rom 8:29).
- But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord (2 Cor 3:18).
This is good news! God will do this miraculous work in us – the divesting of Self, and clothing us in righteousness. What a blessing!
