A Video Bible Study:
Elizabeth George’s
“Putting on a Gentle and Quiet Spirit”
Lesson 11
Today’s Bible Verse:
Therefore submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake, whether to the king as supreme, or to governors, as to those who are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and for the praise of those who do good. For this is the will of God, that by doing good you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men as free, yet not using liberty as a cloak for vice, but as servants of God. Honor all people. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king. (1 Peter 2:13-17 NKJV).
Key points:
- God is sovereign. He is
- Wise
- Strong
- Good
- To rebel against our position or against our authority figures, is to rebel against God.
Rebellion is rooted in pride, thinking that your way, your thoughts are best. Ultimately, if God chooses someone else to be in authority over me, He has selected another decision maker, not me. If I was meant to run the show, He would have enabled me to be in that place. Ouch! That one hits close to home for me. How about you? Here is the video. Our Heavenly Father is always turning things upside down for us. He keeps us on our toes. Here we learn that we cannot be at peace unless we submit to earthly authorities…because we cannot be at peace when we oppose God. It is a chicken and egg thing: you cannot have a gentle and quiet spirit without submitting…but having a gentle and quiet spirit is how we are better able to submit. Where do we begin? It all comes back to Jesus who said, “With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible” (Matt 19:26).
I hope this book is blessing you. If so, I would love to read your comments. As for me, it seems to be just what I need to hear!
