I also thought of something neat to implement with my family – I am going to have them do a Joy Journal daily just like Lorraine Hill has us do – I want them, my kids especially, to be mindful of how their emotions can take them down the wrong path. The Joy Journal just has a date, event, and rating of 0-5 on the Joy scale (5 being joy and 0 being no joy). Remember joy is not happiness, it is having peace or a feeling of assurance, regardless of the situation.
I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength. I am going to share this scripture with the kids (print it on top of the Joy Journal I am making for them) and let them keep track. Younger ones may need to draw a smiley/frowny face to record their feelings, older ones may need more space to record their responses to the day’s events. Since we homeschool, I am able to have mine record their feelings during the school day. For kids in traditional school, you can have them do it when they get home or after dinner, whatever works…I am going to make one for my kids and if I can figure out how to post it, I will!
