Well, I am not sure I will be able to do this everyday – my original plan was to post twice weekly, not daily. But so long as God gives me something to share, I will.
Today, I just did not want to get out of bed…my heart was heavy for a few reasons, and I just wanted to pull the covers over my head – and did for a little bit!. While I was under there, God gave me a scripture. Often part of a verse or a phrase from the Bible will come into my head – I feel like God uses His Word to speak to me in this way. Anyway, here is what popped into my mind: For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow…I chalked it up to having seen it as the verse of the day on Biblegateway.com (love that website!).
I thought I would look it up later and read the whole verse since I couldn’t remember the rest of it. Then I dragged myself out of bed and did my bible study for today. And there it was, again, Hebrews 4:12 I decided I needed to read the entire chapter to see what God had for me. Amazing encouragement!
The beginning of Hebrews 4 talks about how the bad attitude of the Israelites, who came out of Egypt, resulted in them dying in the Wilderness and not entering the Promised Land – I had just done a little cross reference study on this topic last week! It spoke to me then and now about the sin of complaining (more on that another day). And then at the end was more of what I needed to hear. Here is the whole passage that I copied into my journal:
For the Word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.
Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are yet He did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
Hebrews 4:12-16
This Word was just what I needed to hear – that turning to God when I am troubled is better than pulling the covers over my head! So today let us all approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. I hope you are blessed by God’s Word today as much as I have been!
