Today we are remembering God’s goodness. It is a great way to begin the day. Sometimes we get waylaid by the difficulties of life and worn down by dealing with people and we forget our blessings. But we are much better off when we keep our minds on the good things. Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable if anything is excellent or praiseworthy think about such things. (Phil 4:8). Our biggest and best blessing is our relationship with God. Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy (1 Peter 2:10)…and her who was not beloved I call ‘beloved’ (Romans 9:25b).
Through relationship with our Heavenly Father, we are blessed all the more. My favorite blessings?
- His mercy: The LORD is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in lovingkindness. He will not always strive with us, nor will He keep His anger forever. He has not dealt with us according to our sins, nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth so great is His lovingkindness toward those who fear Him (Ps 103:8-11).
- His faithfulness: The LORD Himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged (Deut 31:8).
- His protection: He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the LORD, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust!”…[the LORD says], “Because he has loved Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him securely on high, because he has known My name. He will call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him. With a long life I will satisfy him and let him see My salvation.” (Ps 91:1-2, 14-16).
- His favor: For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor. No good thing does He withhold from those who walk uprightly (Ps 84:11).
