This week’s Memory Verse for our family is an oldie but a goodie! We had this one as a part of last year’s memory program, but it bears repeating. This Old Testament passage, which calls us to keep God first in our lives and in our hearts, is really the foundation of our Christian faith. We will be talking about it more this week as we go deeper into the connection between Integrity and Love.
I have written about this passage before here and here and here. Just to get a better understanding, consider a larger section of this chapter. We will be learning all of this:
“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.” (Deut 6:4-9).
In Deuteronomy 6, we hear about living out our faith, taking the gospel (that God so loved the world…) into the world. Here the Bible answers the question: How can I teach my kids about God? These words reminds us that there is no place in our lives where God is not welcome. All of this is Everyday Holiness.
This passage is really worth committing to memory. Out of love for the Father, we are to Hear it, and Do it. Any chance you can join us this week?
