Jesus said to her,“Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” (John 4:13-14)
Water. So many cliches and factoids come to mind here! What if we used these as jumping off points to apply to our verse?
“You can take a horse to water but you cannot make him drink it.” [Jesus] was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him. He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him (John 1:10-11). Today it is the same. Many reject the message.
“Water, water everywhere but not a drop to drink” (The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, by Coleridge). The World offers an abundance of what passes for wisdom or answers, but it is all useless. The true wisdom, the Living Water, is found in Jesus…For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it isthe power of God. For it is written,“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the discernment of the discerning I will thwart.” Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach to save those who believe. For Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles, but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men (1 Cor 1:18-25).
“The Body is made of 70% water”. Actually this in average. Bodily water percentage varies by gender, age and body structure. Infants and children contain the highest proportion of water, at approximately 77 percent. Adult males are 60 percent water, women are 50 percent water, and seniors usually have the lowest body water proportion, at 45 percent (LiveStrong.com). He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them. And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me (Matt 18:2-5). This may be a bit of a stretch, but think of the Living Water, filling us up, increasing our faith, till we have so much faith…the faith of a little child (more Water!).
“About 70% of the Earth is covered in water” (U.S. Geologic Survey). For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea (Hab 2:14).
