This post is about the signs of Fall, but I’ve had another post on the back burner since last Wednesday. And for some reason, I just didn’t want to finish it. The writing process felt like getting organized for tax season: you know you need to finish and get all the details right, but it’s a hard sell when it comes down to spending time on it.
I couldn’t figure out why, but I knew I just didn’t feel like writing it. And my Gracie girl looked at me with her sunny smile and said, “Why don’t you just write about something else, something that makes you happy?”
Happy? Happy! Yes. That’s it. My first choice for writing is usually something meaningful and deep…or at least aiming in that general direction and hoping for the best.
But I’ve gotten tired of writing that way. I was telling my friend Stacy, “I’ve realized I need to learn to live happier, which means I need to write happier.” So, here’s to happy!
It’s still 98 degrees in the afternoons this week. But during my morning walk, I captured some early signs of Fall. The leaves are just beginning to turn. We are SO EXCITED. We have never lived anyplace where we could watch the leaves change. {Have you ever wondered about why the leaves change? Or how they know when to change? Here’s a simple explanation!}
In the signs of Fall, I see the Lord at work.
- I don’t want to miss the Lord’s work this Fall. Acknowledging His work in everything helps me to know Him better, become more intimate in my relationship with Him. Paul says this, about those who do not know the Lord: “For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God. (Romans 1:20, NLT).
- FALL COLOR is an example of the Lord’s attention to detail. In this season of moving and change, He has brought us to the kind of forever home we all wanted. “He led [us] by a straight way to a city where [we] could settle (Psalm 107:7, NIV)
- Though we couldn’t always see it, God was at work for our good. Throughout our moving preparations, I fretted and feared, yet He was steadfast. I guess you could say I lost hope because, after a long dry season, I was afraid to dream, but He didn’t punish my wandering heart. He didn’t give up on me. I can see this now that we are settling into the place He brought us to, because He is supplying all our needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus (Phil 4:19). The Lord has blessed us with job opportunities, a beautiful home, time with family, a great school situation, church/youth group/life group, piano, tennis, martial arts, guitar…a doctor who listens, great neighbors, new and old friends, fun places to go, great restaurants for dinner…and Fall Color.
How about you? Are you seeing any signs of Fall (besides Pumpkin Spiced Latte at Starbucks)?
