Monday Mercies
Every morning I should be am thankful when my eyes open. There are no guarantees, when we go to sleep at night. Open eyes = Mercy. Every morning I should be am thankful to wake up in a soft, warm bed. First world luxury, undeserved = Mercy. Every morning I should be am thankful to see my husband and children across the breakfast table. Lovely sweethearts = Mercy.
So many new mercies. Such comfort. Sometimes, though, I forget to be thankful. But that doesn’t stop the Lord…the mercies keep coming.
Mercies are fresh starts. Sunday was a movie with my sweet boy and donuts brought home by my hubby and a new fish from the pet store for Gracie.
This Monday means a video chat with a friend, refocusing on healthy, working on our family liturgy and prepping for the Meet Me in the Middle Project.
Mondays can be hard for some people. When I worked, I would get the Sunday night blues, a feeling on anxiousness about what Monday would hold for me. The start of a new week can be daunting, even overwhelming. Sometimes we feel beat before we start.
But today, I see the blessing of Monday mercies. There’s always Monday for starting something new. And I am thankful that the Lord starts even before I wake, with the Monday mercies. And every day is different, yet every day is the same:
Bless the Lord, O my soul,
and all that is within me,
bless his holy name!
Bless the Lord, O my soul,
and forget not all his benefits,
who forgives all your iniquity,
who heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit,
who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy,
who satisfies you with good
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
The Lord is merciful and gracious,
slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
He will not always chide,
nor will he keep his anger forever.
He does not deal with us according to our sins,
nor repay us according to our iniquities.
For as high as the heavens are above the earth,
so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him;
as far as the east is from the west,
so far does he remove our transgressions from us.
As a father shows compassion to his children,
so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him.
For he knows our frame;
he remembers that we are dust.
Psalm 103:1-3, 8-10, ESV
What are you starting new today? This new week? This new month? What mercies are you seeing? What mercies are you longing for? How can I pray for you today?
