Every moment is a gift…

Every moment is a gift

What if every moment is a gift?

This week our pastor talked about time. And the last few weeks have been kind of crazy in the time department, so I perked up. He reminded us that every moment is a gift, not a guarantee. I need to remember that.

every moment is a gift

I haven’t spent much time here, writing blog posts, but I’ve been spending more time writing (other things) than I have in a long time.

  • A little later than I planned, I finished the devotional that began last year as my October writing challenge—Curating the Good. I will be publishing it to Amazon as soon as I get the ebook formatted, so stay tuned!
  • I have written thousands words in the past few weeks for my first college class in over a decade.

Yep. I’m a graduate student, again. And I love it! More on that in another post. But, I guess time has been slipping through my fingers, more than usual. I still have laundry, cooking, shopping, and chauffeur duties. Plus, now we have a puppy who is really eating up any free time I might have had during the day!

It is easy to spend time, waste time, lose time—but what if we live like every moment is a gift? What does that look like?

Ecclesiastes is famous for this Bible passage on time:

For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:

a time to be born, and a time to die;
a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;
a time to kill, and a time to heal;
a time to break down, and a time to build up;
a time to weep, and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together;
a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
a time to seek, and a time to lose;
a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
a time to tear, and a time to sew;
a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
a time to love, and a time to hate;
a time for war, and a time for peace.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8, ESV

It’s beautiful!

But I love this verse, just after those words: He has made everything beautiful in its time (Ecclesiastes 3:11, ESV). If every moment is a gift, then gratitude is our calling. If everything is beautiful, then I have been missing a lot of beauty in my life.

God is calling us to rest in His goodness and see the beauty He provides in our everyday lives. He is calling us to see the beauty that we often miss. If you’re on Instagram, you can follow the hashtag #distractedbybeauty  You will love my friend Amy, she is always on the lookout for beauty out in the world and I’m inviting you to join her. As for me, I am looking for beauty closer to home—in my laundry, cooking, shopping, and chauffeur duties.

If you have a minute, I’d love to hear about where you are seeing beauty today!

When the first day of school is also the day your When the first day of school is also the day your firstborn drives herself to college, it’s a lot. We moved her stuff into her dorm last week. Today she got up early to say goodbye to Dad (too early! Not pictured 😂), her brother, her doggo, her piano, and her momma. Before she left, she made blueberry scones to share with her little bro @sjoshlafont —they homeschool and relocated together, went to @westminsteroakmtn together, and have shared a love of music, Legos, superheroes (and villains), Transformers, and so much more. She played my favorite song. She even made banana bread to bring to her new roomie. @graciethenerd You are my little nut brown hare, and I love you to the moon and back. Auburn University is a better place because you are there! ❤️
