Coming Home

Curating the Good· Slider Posts

Coming Home I can remember Kindergarten, maybe a bit before that. Always, I wanted to know what it meant: Coming Home. My father was a Marine Corps officer; it seemed like our little family of four was all we had. We put down roots. Then uprooted. We went wherever we were sent. My ...

When You’re Feeling Weary. Again.

Curating the Good· Slider Posts

Feeling Weary? Lately, I've been feeling weary. Again. We have been here, in Birmingham, almost two years. Actually, it is 629 days, to be precise. According to a nifty website called timeanddate.com, 629 days can be converted to one of these units: 54,345,600 seconds 905,760 minutes ...

Writing, I Miss You…

Slider Posts

In the past six months, I have written thousands of words, just not here. But that's a story for a little later. Over the years, I have written hundreds of posts here (over 700 posts, actually). For a few years, I faithfully wrote three posts per week, which shocked most of my writing friends. A few ...

Can We Remember the Way God Remembers?

Slider Posts· The Very Truth

How I Remember I've gotten stuck on remembering lately and it has made me wonder how God remembers. Moving closer to family recently has tilled the soil of my heart. Images and vignettes have surfaced, and snippets of conversation echo in my mind. I keep thinking, What does it mean to remember? ...

Remembering, the Right Way

Curating the Good· Slider Posts

Where does your mind go when it wanders? We spend a lot of time and mental energy remembering. Often, I drift to my to-do list—the meal I'm cooking for dinner or a phone call I need to make. Sometimes, I ruminate. It's just like me to get stuck on an idea or memory and go over it again and again, ...

When the first day of school is also the day your When the first day of school is also the day your firstborn drives herself to college, it’s a lot. We moved her stuff into her dorm last week. Today she got up early to say goodbye to Dad (too early! Not pictured 😂), her brother, her doggo, her piano, and her momma. Before she left, she made blueberry scones to share with her little bro @sjoshlafont —they homeschool and relocated together, went to @westminsteroakmtn together, and have shared a love of music, Legos, superheroes (and villains), Transformers, and so much more. She played my favorite song. She even made banana bread to bring to her new roomie. @graciethenerd You are my little nut brown hare, and I love you to the moon and back. Auburn University is a better place because you are there! ❤️
