Finding Your Place on the Stage

My Neighbor

harmony

I think our world is making us weary.  I know it’s making me weary.

This culture is consumed with the drive for recognition and fame. Even our kids are picking up on the fact that, these days, it’s hard to feel like we are “enough” unless we are spectacular {click here to read Lisa Jo Baker’s take on this problem}.

And let’s face it, most of the time we aren’t spectacular. Or amazing.  In fact, when I take a personal inventory, I feel very unimpressive.  I know other women who are professional dancers and fine artists…computer geniuses and financial analysts…published authors and successful speakers…professional chefs and accomplished photographers.  Sounds so much more glamorous than: stay-at-home mom.

When I keep my gaze fixed on my resume, I can get pretty discouraged.

Yet knowing God, I see that I am right where He wants me to be…in a humble place {I love Crystal Stine’s solution to this feeling > embrace humility}.

When we struggle with our worth, it is because we’re forgetting that the One Who is Worthy lives within us. That’s a pretty humbling thought and humility is the antidote to our weariness.

I have been crucified with Christ.
It is no longer I who live,
but Christ who lives in me.
Galatians 2:20, ESV

Christ lives in me.

And if you love Him, He lives in you. His Spirit in me is connected to His Spirit in you. He’s made us all for community (Gen 2:18).  Christian fellowship is a shelter for world-weary souls.

I’ve been thinking of it this way lately: It’s like we are all being told to try out for the solo in a musical piece. The world is saying to each of us, “Go ahead, you deserve the lead.” But most of us were made for the chorus. There needs to be a chorus…the stage is only so big. And it would be a beautiful sound, if we could learn to sing our part in harmony with others, instead of needing to be heard above the crowd.

  • Sing a new song to the Lord! Let the whole earth sing to the Lord (Psalm 96:1).
  • Praise the Lord! Sing to the Lord a new song. Sing his praises in the assembly of the faithful (Psalm 149:1).
  • Sing a new song to the Lord! Sing his praises from the ends of the earth! Sing, all you who sail the seas, all you who live in distant coastlands (Isaiah 42:10).

Do you feel world-weary? Do you ever struggle with thoughts of worthlessness? Would you like to join me in finding a new song to sing?

Yes, yes, yes. I like this reminder and analogy because I hate being on stage, so I should remember that applies to life. Community really is greater. I’m glad you linked up at #ThreeWordWednesday last week and I’m glad I finally made it over to read this post!

Amen Britta! These days it’s easier than ever to feel worthless from all angles… ughh social media is both a blessing and a curse!! And yes I am very world weary longing for a simpler time and love the idea of a new song to sing! Thanks for the reminder that the chorus is a great place to be! Visiting from Holley’s site today. Loving your pretty teal background and the birds in your header ??

Thank you 🙂 It was hard to write…I had a hard two days Monday and Tuesday. My heart was grieved by silly things. But none of those things changed HIM or the truth. 🙂 PTL for that!

Today she got up early to say goodbye to Dad (too early! Not pictured 😂), her brother, her doggo, her piano, and her momma. Before she left, she made blueberry scones to share with her little bro @sjoshlafont —they homeschool and relocated together, went to @westminsteroakmtn together, and have shared a love of music, Legos, superheroes (and villains), Transformers, and so much more. She played my favorite song. She even made banana bread to bring to her new roomie. @graciethenerd You are my little nut brown hare, and I love you to the moon and back.
