How can a young man keep his way pure?
By living according to your word.
I seek you with all my heart;
do not let me stray from your commands.
I have hidden your word in my heart
that I might not sin against you. Psalm 119:9-11
The Day after we celebrated the Resurrection of our Lord seems the perfect time to start something new! Of course, please ignore the fact that today is April Fool’s Day – I really mean this!
I thought it would be great to talk about the importance of hiding the Word in our hearts. I would like to share something about memorizing scripture each Monday or just a verse that is good to learn.
How can a young man keep his way pure?
By living accoring to Your Word.
I seek You with all my heart;
do not let me stray from Your commands.
I have hidden Your Word in my heart
that I might not sin against you. Psalm 119:9-11
The Psalmist knew. God’s Word has power. You know the old saying, “You are what you eat”? Well, that is true for the body. But God’s Word is the food for our hungry hearts: Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God (Matt 4:4; Deut 8:3). We are what we eat in that sense too.
The Resurrection of Christ is about new life with Him, both now and for eternity. But how do we grow in the knowledge and love of Him who died to redeem us? By knowing Him, intimately, more deeply. By seeking His presence – His face and not His hand.
We know Him, intimately, by drinking in the Living Water, eating the Bread of Life – by consuming His Word.
So we’ll do this as long as it seems right and see how it goes. I used to make such strict plans for my blogging schedule, but I have realized that I cannot promise anything that God does not want me to deliver. And I have just enough OCD to really wish I had started this at the beginning of the year, but every day is an opportunity to start doing something good that God has put on my heart…
So this week me and the kids are reviewing a verse we have memorized before. You guessed it:
How can a young man keep his way pure?
By living accoring to Your Word.
I seek You with all my heart;
do not let me stray from Your commands.
I have hidden Your Word in my heart
that I might not sin against you. Psalm 119:9-11
Why don’t you join us? Next Monday I will share about the fun ways we work memory verses into our busy, sometimes chaotic lives. Please tell me that you will hide His Word in your heart with us!
Hugs,
