Memory Verse Monday: June 17

Memory Verse Monday

And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father (Col 3:17, NLT).

True confession: This week I have been stumbling over, and failing at, the goal in this verse.  At home, my words have not pointed to Him so much, as to me, and my feelings.  Feelings are such a bad compass.  It is much better to remember the LORD, than our feelings.  So I looked up the command to “remember” the LORD (His Word, His goodness, His acts…) and my count is not necessarily perfect, but I counted 87 times where we are commanded to REMEMBER.

Here is the definition of REMEMBER: to bring to mind or think of again <remembers the old days>; to keep in mind for attention or consideration<remembers friends at Christmas>; to retain in the memory <remember the facts until the test is over>; to convey greetings from <remember me to her> (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/remember)

Remembering the LORD means that we would set our minds on Him and, I like the part at the end of the list, that we would convey His Words, the sense of Who He is, to others.  Here is one of my very favorite bible verses on remembering the LORD, and His way, rather remembering than the ways of the world:

Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old.  Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert (Is 43:18-19).

So I guess Mondays are good for new beginnings!  In fact, this week I am preparing a teaching for my Bible Study that really challenges me to commit to a new beginning.  I have been sharing about the pursuit of  holiness and living out God’s plan for The Family Workshop with a wonderful group of women on Wednesdays (I just love alliteration!).  Applying the Word to daily life is a constant challenge.  Thankfully, He is doing the work…He is doing a new thing, daily.  And He never gives up on us.  When I let Him have His way with me, and my feelings, suddenly I am able to represent Him more accurately.  It is nothing short of a modern day miracle, when you think of it!

So this week, this day, this minute…I am recommitting to, remembering that, I am a representative of Jesus Christ.  I am not trying to *stop* doing anything, though there are many things I should *stop* doing.  I am learning that it is better to start than to stop.  Starting toward Him, turns us away from evil.

Keeping Him in mind, is the only way I can convey His Words, the sense of Who He truly is, to those He has placed in my path and on my heart.  And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father (Col 3:17, NLT).

I pray that we can all REMEMBER Him, and do this today, and throughout the week!  What has He called to your remembrance today?

Hugs,

Britta ~ I am justAgirl...just like you!

I love this, for it is exactly what the eyes of my heart needed to read today! I like what you said about feelings being a bad compass. So very true. Yet, I look to my feelings as a guide over and over. Sometimes I wish I were more like my husband, because he does NOT use his feelings as a compass. He is matter of fact and perfectly in charge of his feelings and I admire that. Me? I get all upset because I think I’m a bad mother because I can’t keep an African Violet alive! Ug! Feelings! Who needs ’em! Yet, God in His wisdom speaks through my heart, guides my feelings and just is good about it all the time. I love the way you write about this! You amaze me! 🙂

Thank you!!! The LORD is good to take my messes and let them be an encouragement to someone else…His purposes are easier to bear when we can see them more clearly! Love your heart – and I am the “brown thumb” in my family…have temporarily given up the desire for greenery. Will get back to it when I can devote my self more fully to it – like when I am 105! 😉

Today she got up early to say goodbye to Dad (too early! Not pictured 😂), her brother, her doggo, her piano, and her momma. Before she left, she made blueberry scones to share with her little bro @sjoshlafont —they homeschool and relocated together, went to @westminsteroakmtn together, and have shared a love of music, Legos, superheroes (and villains), Transformers, and so much more. She played my favorite song. She even made banana bread to bring to her new roomie. @graciethenerd You are my little nut brown hare, and I love you to the moon and back.
