Spring Fever

Wholeness

Ecc 311

God is The Creator. He is the genius behind blazing sunsets, intricate flowers, crashing oceans, painted deserts, rolling hills, purple mountains, new born baby faces…and so much more!  We were made to be like Him.  And so we enjoy creating, like He does.

Recently we went to the beautiful (and chilly!) California beaches.  Another family we were with had a kindergarten girl who was forever building sandcastles.  I asked her what kept her making one house after another (she was a bit of a perfectionist!).  She replied, “I like to make things pretty.”

Well, me too.

So for fun, today I thought I would share a few pics of the way we brought Spring into the house.  And, by “we”, I mean me and Pottery Barn, Hobby Lobby, JoAnn’s, and Tuesday Morning. After living the nomadic life of a military wife, I have decided it is high time to have centerpieces and little vignettes.  And pillows.  I love pillows.

My husband says if I had to describe my decorating style, it would be “Baskets and Pillows.”  But that’s not entirely true.  I like glass items and candles and natural, living things too.

I love burlap too.  And mason jars.  So when it was beginning to get warm here in Arizona and the national forecasts called for blizzards in other places, I got a little Spring Fever.  Here’s my dining room table:

It didn’t feel quite finished and my friend Heather gave me a little help.  She said: add color.  This would highlight one of my newest decorating problems.  I am in love with neutrals!  Heather has a cute little blog called Life à la Mode: The Pursuit of Everyday Style and Grace.  So she was the perfect person to ask!  She read my mind too, we both thought some pale pink would be the perfect touch.

Here is the dining room now with the centerpiece and pink fabric.  And the little succulents that I haven’t killed yet – we are going on one month now, so that is pretty good for me!  Sadly, my family calls me the “brown thumb” because I have a sort of bad track record with most houseplants.

This pink fabric worked well with what I had done with the little server that sits right next to the dining room.  We keep all the kids’ art supplies in there.  So we call it the “art server.” I loved the color of the pink tapers and I matched the fabric to them.

And now for the pillows.  My addiction to pillows is tapering off because I have some for each season.  I think living in many places with only two discernible seasons  hello summer and winter   has driven me to find ways to create season change in my house.  And it has really been fun this year!

Thank you to my supportive husband, who never really notices anything about how the house is decorated unless I move his chair, but understands my need to “make things pretty.”  And whether it is sandcastles, or your home sweet home, I guess you just never grow out of that!

Aww – thank you dear Cati! I got them at JoAnn’s. They are a lot cheaper there than Pottery Barn, where I saw them also. I got some that were sparkly too but I returned them. Sometimes you just can’t tell till you get home!

Yes ‘“ Heather was so right! I used to have lots of color and it has taken me a while to get to a more neutral place. I like it much better! But ‘“ oh the convincing it took for Scott to let me get a lighter colored sofa‘¦you know what I mean!

Today she got up early to say goodbye to Dad (too early! Not pictured 😂), her brother, her doggo, her piano, and her momma. Before she left, she made blueberry scones to share with her little bro @sjoshlafont —they homeschool and relocated together, went to @westminsteroakmtn together, and have shared a love of music, Legos, superheroes (and villains), Transformers, and so much more. She played my favorite song. She even made banana bread to bring to her new roomie. @graciethenerd You are my little nut brown hare, and I love you to the moon and back.
