What We’re Reading Lately (WWRL)

WWRL

Do you have a stack of unread books, staring at you, mocking you? ‘¦just reminds me of piles of laundry, dishes in the sink, and paperwork on the counter. Sometimes all of this unfinished business starts. to. make. me. crazy! Don’t get me wrong I love books! So we’ve begun to play nice with that snarky stack of books again. The words here have connected with our hearts, and so we share just a few of them now, with you:

Cati

Cati kitchen stackIt is a consummate experience. To be loved but not known is comforting, but superficial.  To be known and not loved is our greatest fear. But to be fully known & truly loved is, well, a lot like being loved by God. It is what we need more than anything. It liberates us from pretense, humbles us out of our self-righteousness, and fortifies us for any difficulty life can throw at us.

The Meaning of Marriage by Tim Keller

Lord, may I love like You do, in all of my relationships. Selflessly, genuinely, & without pretenses.

 Jodi

Jodi stackWe don’t need a praying life because that is our duty. That would wear thin quickly. We need time to be with our Father every day because every day our hearts and the hearts of those around us are overgrown with seeds. We need to reflect on our lives and engage God with the condition of our souls and the souls he has entrusted to our care or put in our paths. In a fallen world, these things do not come automatically.

A Praying Life: Connecting with God in a Distracting World, Paul Miller.

If people can’t freely speak their minds, conversations become muted and debate withers.

Because God made people in His image, people can create. Other creatures make things, but only humans create. Bees make hives and birds make nests, but birds and bees can only make what their instincts tell them to make. Human beings can create all kinds of things  buildings and music, stories and inventions, furniture and clothing.  What people create is far better than what animals create by instinct. But God’s creation is much more wonderful than anything man makes because God creates from nothing.  Training Hearts, Teaching Minds: Family Devotions Based on the Shorter Catechism, Starr Meade.

So…what have YOU been reading lately?

I have Starr’s book on my bookshelf. Is it good for your kiddo’s ages or do you think mine could handle it? We attended church with the Meades for several years, such a great family 🙂

When the first day of school is also the day your When the first day of school is also the day your firstborn drives herself to college, it’s a lot. We moved her stuff into her dorm last week. Today she got up early to say goodbye to Dad (too early! Not pictured 😂), her brother, her doggo, her piano, and her momma. Before she left, she made blueberry scones to share with her little bro @sjoshlafont —they homeschool and relocated together, went to @westminsteroakmtn together, and have shared a love of music, Legos, superheroes (and villains), Transformers, and so much more. She played my favorite song. She even made banana bread to bring to her new roomie. @graciethenerd You are my little nut brown hare, and I love you to the moon and back. Auburn University is a better place because you are there! ❤️
