Built to Last?

The Family Workshop

Last time, I posted about our Gingerbread House and my Sweet Boy…how he committed a family faux pas.  He ate the Gingerbread House!  But out of this experience came something good in our family – we had to apply what the Word has taught us about forgiveness and reconciliation and we are better for it.  On Wednesday, we set to building a new one.  We all agreed it was better than the first, partly because we had more practice and partly because we were more intentional in how we approached it.

In my mind I saw how building the little house mirrored the building of the House, which is our family. Here are some things we see in God’s Word about building our “house”:

By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established (Prov 24:3).

For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God (Heb 3:4).

By knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches (Matt 24:4).

For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ (1 Cor 3:11).

Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and no city or house divided against itself will stand (Matt 12:25).

For we know that if the tent that is our earthly home is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens (2 Cor 5:1).

Just a little food for thought today! 🙂

Next week I want to share a bit about forgiveness and reconciliation.  We must be intentional and obedient to Scripture in this area, especially in our families.  After that, we will explore Family Projects and how we can apply the Word to our everyday lives – the Gingerbread Gaffe inspired me and I am developing a new Family Project at our house that I hope to share in a week or so – stay tuned!

Happy Weekend!

When the first day of school is also the day your When the first day of school is also the day your firstborn drives herself to college, it’s a lot. We moved her stuff into her dorm last week. Today she got up early to say goodbye to Dad (too early! Not pictured 😂), her brother, her doggo, her piano, and her momma. Before she left, she made blueberry scones to share with her little bro @sjoshlafont —they homeschool and relocated together, went to @westminsteroakmtn together, and have shared a love of music, Legos, superheroes (and villains), Transformers, and so much more. She played my favorite song. She even made banana bread to bring to her new roomie. @graciethenerd You are my little nut brown hare, and I love you to the moon and back. Auburn University is a better place because you are there! ❤️
